Yen Touysinhthiphonexay, Research Scientist

At Eltron Research, Mr. Touysinhthiphonexay has had the opportunity to work with great scientists on projects involving: destruction of chemical warfare agents in air at low temperatures; regeneration of spacecraft water by catalytic wet air oxidation; high stability thin film reverse osmosis membranes; high efficiency electro-refining for direct capture of water soluble metals; real time personal monitor for the dry cleaning industry. He looks forward to finding solutions to future problems.

Yen worked for over ten years for the Atlantic Richfield Co. (ARCO) Research and Technical Services Lab in Plano, Texas. As a member of the reservoir research group, he prepared and analyzed samples from core flood experiments using liquid chromatography, and Direct Coupled Plasma spectro-photometric analyses as part of a comprehensive study on North Slope prospects. Later, as a member of the Corrosion Mitigation team, he performed corrosion tests to evaluate, rank, and recommend corrosion inhibitors to the ARCO Alaska North Slope operation.

He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Geology from Yale University, and his Master of Science in Geochemistry and Mineralogy from The Pennsylvania State University. In graduate school, Yen converted samples of diamonds, silicates, oxides, and carbonates to carbon dioxide gas for carbon and oxygen isotope analyses on the mass spectrometer. He had to synthesize some of his starting minerals from oxide mixtures in sealed high pressure/high temperature vessels. In order to identify his experimental products, he learned to operate a number of analytical instruments (X-Ray Diffraction, X-Ray Fluorescence, Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy, Carbon Analyzer, and Scanning Electron Microscopy).
