RICHARD A. BLEY, Senior Chemist

Dr. Bley is currently engaged in research aimed at developing nano-phase materials for use as structural reinforcement in composites. This involves the design and synthesis of new polymers that wrap and encase carbon nanotubes and have functional groups attached that provide a mechanism for their incorporation into epoxies and thermoplastics to act as reinforcement. He is also involved in the synthesis and development of new electrolytes for use in advanced battery applications and electrochemical recovery methods of environmental contaminants. His interests include synthesis of nano-phase materials, new electrolytes, separation membranes, and solid state optoelectronic materials.
